Biography

Dr. Namali Suraweera is a Senior lecturer and former Head of the Department of Library and Information Science, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka. She is also a Director of the Inter-Faculty Centre for Coordinating the Modular Systems (ICCMS), University of Kelaniya. She has completed her Bachelor of Arts Degree and Master of Social Sciences in Library and Information Science in University of Kelaniya.

She earned her PhD in Information Management in 2015 from School of Information Management in Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. She has over 17 years of contribution to the profession and research. She has also served as a lecturer in E-Learning and as a Contact for Academic Technologies (CAT) in Centre for Academic Development (CAD) in Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand.

Dr. Namali has contributed over 40 papers to learned journals and international conferences. She qualified for the title “Digital Teaching and Learning Technologist” by successfully completing a course at Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand.

She has actively involved in the establishment of National E-Learning Resource Centre (NELRC) in University of Kelaniya and served as a first Director of NELRC from 2016-2018 and until 2020 she provided her service to the NELRC as a Consultant of Instructional Designing.

Dr. Namali very recently won Vanithabimani 2022 – education category from Western Province. She won Vice Chancellor’s award three times and received number of scholarships and fellowships including PhD scholarship, 12th APNG Camp Fellowship, and IFLA Grants. Further, she received “Asia Library Leaders Promising Professional Award –
2016” and won number of best research paper awards for her research publications at national and international conferences. She delivered number of keynote speeches at
national and international conferences.

She is a member of editorial board of The Internet and Higher Education: A Quarterly Review of Innovations in Post-secondary Education, ELSEVIER, Moreover, she has given her contribution as a resource person for conducting AHEAD workshops on Digital Teaching and Learning in different faculties in public and private Universities in Sri Lanka.

Her main teaching and research interest include information literacy, e-learning, digital/multimedia technologies, digital teaching and learning, educational and social and cultural theories.
