Biography

Dr. Mashroofa obtained her school education at Al-Manar Central College, Maruthamunai, Kalmunai from grade one to Advance Level. She entered Eastern University, Sri Lanka in 1988/89 to read for Biological Science. She got her Bachelor of Science degree with honours-Second class upper division. She received Rathini Anathamoorthy Memorial Award for the best performance of Biological Science Examination in 1995.

Before entering to university academic career, she was an English teacher and started her academic career at first as an English Instructor, at South Eastern University of Sri Lanka in 1997. From April 1998 onwards she has shifted her academic career to university Librarianship under temporary basis. She joined South Eastern University of Sri Lanka as an Assistant Librarian (probationary) in 15 January 2001, and has completed around 21 years of service in the university library sector, from January 2001 to 2022. She served as the Head – Periodical Section, Head – Acquisition Section, and Head – Electronic Resources. In addition to this, she is responsible for the Science Library for Faculty of Applied Sciences, which is located 20 km away from the main Library.

Dr. Mashroofa obtained Post Graduate Diploma in Education from Open University of Sri Lanka, Master of Library & Information Science from University of Colombo and Ph.D from Management & Science University of Malaysia.

She is an Associate Member/ Chartered Librarian of Sri Lanka Library Association, member of American Library Association and Member of International Federation of Library Associations & Institutions (IFLA) under Academic & Research Library Section and Asia and Oceania Regional Division. She contributes as a resource person to train professionals of public & school Library sectors in eastern province under Management development & Training Board of Eastern Province, Sri Lanka. In addition, she served as a resource for the workshops/ seminars organized by National Library & Documentation Services Board and Sri Lanka Library Association. She got a scholarship of IFLA to train on Information Literacy & Information Technology for one month at the Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. For last 5 years, she is coordinating and teaching Information Literacy for two credits at Faculty of Applied Sciences of South Eastern University of Sri Lanka.

She has published around 30 research papers and chapters of books in local and international journals and conference proceedings. She is contributing a lot to the development of the Libraries of the South Eastern University of Sri Lanka, as well as the library sector of academic, public & school librarianship across the island.
