Report of workshop on How to Succeed in Agribusiness in Dry Zone
On 12th September 2024, a workshop was organized by ICDA 2024 in collaboration with the UBL Cell of the Faculty of Agriculture. It was held at the faculty auditorium from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM. The workshop was aimed at local entrepreneurs, conducted in the Tamil medium. A total of 150 participants attended the event. It was funded by Chrysalis through the Industrial Development Board. The workshop featured resource persons who were speakers invited for ICDA 2024. Faculty members and regional organizations also provided additional support.
Following registration and the workshop introduction was given by Dr. N. Kannan, Faculty coordinator, UBL cell. Thereafter, Remarks was given by Mr. S. Sadacharan, Assistant Director, Industrial Development Board, Northern Province. Prof. E. Somasundaram, Director of Agribusiness Development and Professor of Agronomy at Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, India, conducted a session titled “How to Run Agribusiness Successfully.” He shared valuable insights and tips on starting and sustaining agribusinesses, specifically in the dry zone context. Dr. (Mrs.) S. Sivakanthan, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Agricultural Chemistry, delivered a session on current food-related regulations in Sri Lanka, highlighting laws, policies, and guidelines crucial for agribusiness ventures. Mrs. Kiruba Kamalnath, Administrative Officer at BOC, Ariviyal Nagar, led a session on securing and managing loans for entrepreneurship, providing detailed information and examples of relevant loan schemes, along with guidelines for the application process. Discussion and questions were coordinated and assisted by by Dr. S. Sivashankar, Dr. R. Sarathadevi, Mr. S. Sritharan and Dr. Mrs. S. Terensan. The event is hosted by S. Vaithehi, Assistant Lecturer, Department of Agricultural Biology.
