Call for Extended Abstract/Synopsis

The Vithiananthan Library, University of Jaffna is pleased to announce its Symposium on Library and Information Science – 2024, scheduled for September 2024. We extend a warm invitation for you to submit an extended abstract or synopsis of your project(s) for consideration to be presented at the Symposium.

Theme and Sub-themes

The primary theme of the symposium is “Knowledge Empowerment: Libraries as Catalysts for Excellence”. You are invited to give short, dynamic presentations or lightning talks where attendees can share their ideas, experiences, and success stories concisely, under the sub-theme “Transformative Initiatives in LIS”. This would provide an opportunity for you to share your innovative, completed or in-progress projects on a recognized platform, enabling you to present your work to peers, gather feedback, and ignite discussions.

Submission guidelines
  • Author(s) who wish to present their project work at the Symposium on Library and Information Science – 2024 should submit the extended abstract or synopsis in the prescribed format.
  • Annexed declaration form must be duly perfected and signed by all authors.
  • The electronic version of above both documents must be submitted to the Editor via the email edi.etakam@univ.jfn.ac.lk.
  • All the queries related to submission must be directed to the Editor’s email (edi.etakam@univ.jfn.ac.lk).
  • All correspondences regarding the submitted extended abstract or synopsis will be addressed to the Corresponding author.
  • Author(s) could, if they wish, submit and present their paper in Tamil or English.
Review procedure
  • Initial screening of the submitted manuscripts will be done by the Editorial Committee.
  • Subsequently, the screened manuscripts will be sent to independent reviewers for double-blind peer review.
  • Based on the reviewer’s recommendations and comments, the manuscript shall be accepted as it is, or resubmitted with revisions (minor/major) or rejected.
  • The Editorial Committee reserves the right to make alterations to the text of the manuscripts to improve their quality.
Publication and Presentation
  • The accepted Extended abstracts/Synopses will be published in the proceedings of the symposium, which carries an ISBN.
  • An accepted work shall be presented by an author at the Symposium, in person or virtually.
  • Author(s) need to be registered at the Symposium.
Guidelines for the format of the Extended abstract/Synopsis

The extended abstract or synopsis should offer sufficient information for the reader to comprehend the totality of what is being presented. It can be laid out in separate paragraphs as given in the template. Please follow the instructions given below carefully:

  • The title of the paper should be concise and specific. It should reflect the content of the project(s).
  • The length of the extended abstract/synopsis should be between 400-600 words, and include all aspects of the project work. i.e.,
    • Background and Objectives         – 150 words
    • Project plan and Methods used  – 100 words
    • Findings and Discussion              – 150 words
    • Conclusion                                      – 50 words
    • Suggestions                                     – 50 words
  • Tables, diagrams and photographs should not be included in the extended abstract/ synopsis.
  • Keywords (3-5) should be included.
  • Manuscript should be submitted in Microsoft Word format.
  • References (not more than five) should be given in APA style (7th ed.). For information on formatting references, refer to the Publication manual of the APA (7th ed.) or visit https://apastyle.apa.org/style-grammar-guidelines/references/examples.
